14 March 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 14th March [1882]. I wanted to go & see Connie so I ordered the brougham at 11.30 & went first to Blanche to see if she wd go with me. I found Mr Ponsonby père was there & she cd not go. I stood talking a little while & who should walk in but Connie so I went from there to see Alice Rate—sat with her & then went home to luncheon. Afterwards I took Henry to the British Museum with some models of Assyrian chariots a gentleman had sent him as being his idea of the way they were constructed. I thence went to enquire on Mrs Austen. Called on Blossett Alderson whom I luckily found. Went to Woollands & thence to Rices & home. Found Sir Henry Cole waiting for us & Mama. Mrs T. Bruce came to tea, also Mr Kinglake & Arthur. Later Lady Lloyd Lindsay came. I had to arrange the flowers on the dinner table, write the menus & dress for dinner. I only just had time to do it. Mr Robert Browning, Sir Rd Temple, Mr & Mrs Burr, Dr & Mrs Wm Smith, Miss Duff Gordon & Miss Alice DG—Mr John Ashburnham & Monty was our party.
