16 March 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 16th March [1882]. I got up rather late being tired. I wrote letters & worked the sewing machine to make Blanche’s baby’s dress. Sir Arthur Otway came to show us the answer he had got from Dilke abt Henry’s getting another embassy. It was Ld Granville’s letter to Dilke saying he was still well disposed to Henry but hinting there was nothing to give him. Mrs Burr called & sat & chatted. Splendid weather. Blanche & Onie called & they dragged me out to walk with them. We went to the Burlington Arcade & then I walked a little way with them & then home to lunch. Henry & I drove out to Kilburn Priory to call on Mr & Mrs Redhouse. She recd us in her bed room as she has been ill & cannot go down. She was very cheerful & we talked of Consple &c. We left a note from Henry to Ld Granville in wh he asks if he is to be employed again or not. We came home to tea. Lady Eastlake came to see us—& then Harry Bourke. We dined at the Rates & met Kinglake, Mrs Somerset & a Mr & Mrs Leicester. Kinglake took me to dinner. We went home early.
