18 March 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 18th March [1882]. Worked machine &c. Mrs Bagot came to luncheon & went with Henry to the National Gallery. I went out driving at 3—fetched Nellie from Hamilton House. I went to call on Lady Lloyd Lindsay. She was more shy than ever & I felt as if I should never get thro’ with my visit having to keep the ball of conversation rolling all by myself. We went to see Mollie Alderson but she was out. We took a drive in the Park & enjoyed the fine weather but did not see a soul we knew. Went at 4.30 to Lady Ashburnham’s who was by way of receiving today. Found a few people there. At 5 we returned home. Genl. Crealock payed us a long visit & was very agreeable. Then later Mrs Hambro came & took Nellie with her home to dinner. Henry & I dined with Lord & Lady Stanhope. Met the Reays, Balfours, Eustace Cecils &c Mr Leveson Gower took me to dinner & I sat next a Mr Graham. Lady (Louisa) Ashburton dined there & after dinner I had a long talk with her– In the eveng there was a party but we did not stay very late.
