3 April 1882 — Roehampton
Monday. 3rd April [1882]. Henry went off to town about 11 o’clock. I remained till the evening. I went up to the nursery & occupied myself in putting the Little Wanzer Machine in order which took me some time to do. Then I went down to the Drawing Room & sat with Maria talking & working. Lunch at 1. We returned to our work & Ola played the piano to show her progress. I helped Maria to tack pieces together for the babies to make patch work. Then we went out & walked round the garden. At 5 we had tea with the children & then went up to their schoolroom to see Ruth, Daisy, Ola & Nela act a French play which they did very well. Ruth did a man’s part & being nearly 6 ft. looked her part very well. At 6 o’cl the carriage came for me & I went to Ravenna Road Putney to call on Temmie who was at home– Sat with her ½ hour & then drove to Savile Row for dinner. We two dined alone—& we played cribbage & went early to bed.
