5 April 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 5th April [1882]. Davidson came from Cowtan’s to see abt putting up white muslin curtains in the drawing room. I had a deal to do arranging things, books &c. Susan Hepburn came to see me & I bid her remain & dust the books. We lunched at 1. Mr F. Burton came to see Henry. Henry & I left at 3 & went to Waterloo Station & we went down by 3.36 to Templecombe– The Express having been stopped at Templecombe we arrived there before the carriage arrived for us so Henry & I set off & walked nearly all the way to Inwood. The carriage caught us up and we got to Inwood at 6. Had some tea– Found that Merthyr was laid up with a cold in his chest—& he did not come down to dinner. We found Dr Wiblin staying here. We sat in the microscope room with him & I played cribbage with Dr Wiblin. Merthyr & Henry looked thro’ the microscope.
