Tuesday. 18th April [1882]. Rested on the sofa. Did accts. Had interview with Jerry abt his accts. Saw Love who came to ask me to give her a character. I talked to her a long time about the reason she left Constance wh is that she drinks. I implored her to take the pledge. She at last promised me to do so. Sir Wm Drake called. He is better & abt again tho’ very much aged & still looking ill. After luncheon Constance came to see me & then Blanche called for me in her victoria & took me a drive. We went to Connie’s & had tea there with Bee & her Gov. & then I left Blanche at the Bach Choir & came home. Mrs Ball came to tea & stayed a long time– She was very strange but amusing—very untidy & complained of her health. She seemed very low at her husband’s absence. He has gone to Chile. Squire Burr came to see me. He made me a present of a curious old cribbage board. In the evening Henry & I played cribbage & inaugurated the new board– | |
