19 April 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 19th April [1882]. All day on the sofa—read & worked & wrote letters. Alice came to luncheon– Henry went to lunch in the city. Abt 4.30 Squire Burr called and suggested a game of cribbage & when Henry returned & Mrs Burr called at the same time they found us hard at work with “fifteen two fifteen four” to their great amusement. Blanche came to fetch me to drive with her at 3 but I would not go out so she went alone. When Mrs Burr came she made tea while our game was going on but it was interrupted by the arrival of Henry’s brother Fred & his wife & daughter Ida. This was somewhat awkward as they & the Burrs were not friendly. However they were obliged to meet & speak & perhaps it may be all for the best & may lead to a make up. After the Layards were gone the Squire & I finished our rubber in wh I was victorious & he went off. Blanche & Constance & Charlie dined with us & there was cribbage, talk & work in the evening.
