25 April 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 25th [April 1882]. Wrote &c in morning. Mrs Burr came to see me & sat chatting. Lady Burdett Coutts also came to see me as she was going out of town & thought we should have left before her return. Lunch at 1.30 & Henry was at home. At 3 Ella Drake fetched me & we went shopping to Lewis & Allenby where I helped her to choose a mantle & then to Barker to order boots. It poured in such torrents all day that we could not stop out & so she brought me home early. Mrs Willie Hanson came to tea & sat talking with me till 6 when it got quite dark with fog & rain. Henry went to dine with the Lincoln Inn Benchers at 6 o’cl. At 8 I went to dine with Mrs Frith a family gathering– Met Genl. Wm & Mrs Layard, Mr & Mrs Somes, Mr & Mrs White, Miss Barbara Layard, Miss Sabonadiere, Mrs Black, Fred Layard & his son Arthur &c &c Mr White took me to dinner & his son sat on my right. I had pleasant talk with perè White. Dinner was long & it was 10 before we went upstairs. Found Henry there came on from his dinner. There was some music & talk & at 11 we went home.
