1 May 1882 — 3 Savile Row | |
Monday. 1st May [1882]. I made up my mind that I would go and see Sir James Paget & consult him about my knee as to whether I was to keep it up or not. He appointed to see me at 12.30 so I set off & walked there. I had a little while to wait and was glad when it came to my turn. He pronounced me to be suffering from gout—& said it was of no use my laying [down] for it as it would probably always continue to exist more or less and that I might walk about. I therefore walked on to see Blanche but she was not at home so I walked home again just in time for luncheon. After lunch Henry went off to a meeting of the Nat. Gallery. Alice & I walked out. We went to Lewis & Allenby about the question of Burano lace which they wrote to enquire about with a view to selling it. Mr Lewis himself was called & came & consulted & a Mr Webb one of the firm & they promised to consider the matter & to let me know the result. We went on to the dentist Harding where I had my front tooth stopped for the 4th time. From there we walked home by Oxford St & Bond Street & came home by tea time. Abt 6.30 we realized that we had no flowers so Alice rushed out & bought some & we had to put them up & arrange the dinner table & then to dress. Mama, Mr & Mrs Clark, Sir Collingwood & Lady Dickson & Prince Cariati dined with us. Mr Schreiber was kept at the H of C. | |
