4 July 1882 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Tuesday. 4th July [1882]. We had another photograph taken of us 5 John Anton Syltebo in a small group & a lot of fish. I sat up in Hill’s room working. Monty was busy at home making a contract with Mrs Fagerslet for the fishing on her land. I walked up with Monty & the photographer to settle a place for a view from Fagerslet. It was hot & there were many flies abt. When Monty had finally settled with Mrs Fagerslet & also bought her salmon trap he & Siemonsen, Anton & I went down to Fagerslet to see if there were any fish in her trap wh had not been opened for a fortnight. We found Ld Rowton just fishing there so he put away his rod & joined the party. We were taken over in the boat 2 at a time to a little island near the trap. Suddenly there was a great calling & running & the little pony rolled down the bank into the river luckily into shallow water & so was able to scramble out. When we all got to the island we were still unable to get to the trap. Monty suggested throwing a rope over the trap & so haul the boat up by it. Siemonsen & Monty both went into the river up to their waists before they succeeded in fixing the rope– This done Thorwald & Anton pulled the boat up to the trap & crawled on to it. They found nothing in it & opened it & left it so. We were all transported back to the land & walked home to dinner. After dinner I went out with the Marquis to fish by myself with only his boy to help me. We went out a long way but only got 2 scythe. Mine was 4½ lb.—the Marquis 10 lb. Monty brought 2 salmon in the eveng 27 & 31 lbs. Cribbage with Henry.
