7 July 1882 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Friday. 7th July [1882]. Blew hard all day & no fish caught. I went with Monty to Fagerslet to sketch up the valley while Henry & Lord Rowton went up to fish in the morning– Dined at 4 & then I went down to the Bank to try & cast but the wind was too high & Bertie advised me to give it up. Monty & Ld Rowton went up to Bjornes together to fish. Henry went to Friswold but no one got any fish. Bertie & I spent the eveng going up to the wood to find small fir trees & we brought down 4 very microscopic trees wh we brought home and planted in front of the house & got it done just as the others came back from fishing. We had great fun over our avenue & endless jokes abt walking under the shade of it &c. It was proposed to put a seat under one of the trees for their 2 Graces (Marlboro’ & Roxboro’) to sit on when they pay us a visit from Weblungsnes where they are now.
