11 July 1882 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Tuesday. 11th July [1882]. Day overcast & showery, clouds low. I went to cast at the bank & then came in again & painted till dinner. Henry wrote all morning. After dinner I went sea fishing with the Marquis but we only got 2 whiting & I came home disgusted & went down to the bank to fish. I met Ld Rowton who had just caught a 13 lb. salmon at the rest & a trout. Monty had come back & caught nothing on his beat & said he was too tired to go on as he had been fishing since 8 A.M. I thought I was alone at the bank when I suddenly heard shouts & reeling up I ran towards the rest there I saw Monty, Bertie, John, Siemonsen & Arthur (Ld R’s servant) all running & at last John gaffed a trout Monty had on– Thinking he had got a salmon he called out & all the others ran to assist himself & to gaff what only proved a trout– Supper at 10.30 & bed–
