13 July 1882 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Thursday. 13th July [1882]. Mr & Mrs Barrington Kennett arrived to breakfast with us & remained till nearly 12 when they took leave & started for Eidswold. It was a fresh cloudy morng & I went down to cast at the bank & got a rise & saw a big fish jump at Lower Gredhus. I came in & told Henry & he went out to try to catch him but in vain. Lord Rowton & Monty went up to Bjornes together & Ld R. remained to fish for trout in the stream & did not return to dinner. While we were at dinner a note came from the B. Kennetts to say they had been obliged to return as the wind was so high on the fjord they could not row against it. Henry went to Friswold to fish. I went to the bank. Had a rise. Ld Rowton came home & dined & I went up to the house to rest a little & sat & talked to him while he dined & then went back to the bank & fished again. Henry came down having lost a salmon & being very disgusted. I got into his boat when he got out & John took me to troll for trout. We got nothing & so came home for supper. Found the Kennetts waiting for us & gave them supper & then sat talking in the porch– The Kennetts took leave intending to start off again tomorrow at 6.
