16 July 1882 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Sunday. 16th July [1882]. It blew a horrid scirocco wind all day & we were all obliged to remain in doors. I painted all the morning. The servants having returned from their expedition at 5.30 this morning were all tired so we settled to dine at 5 & let them rest in the meanwhile– While we were at dinner the hot wind suddenly changed to a cool one & we thought we shd have a pleasant eveng & we all sallied forth to our fishg Monty & I on the bank—but in a few minutes the old S wind returned & it was as bad as ever. Monty gave me his 15 ft rod to fish with & it was a very nice one to cast with. The post came in & I had a lot of letters. Monty got a telegram to say our fleet had bombarded Alexandria & silenced the forts. No one got any fish. We had supper & talk over the news.
