26 July 1882 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Wednesday. 26th July [1882]. I got up early & went out for my last fishing. I touched 2 trout under the bank & hooked what John said was a salmon but he was soon off & I came in to breakfast disconsolate. There were heavy showers the whole morning– Packed up all the odds & ends & walked down to Noste at 12 to take our departure. Henry & Ld Rowton went on early in order that Henry might read the papers before we started. Monty, Bertie & I followed. John’s old mother was at her cottage door & we had to go thro many hand shakings as we passed. A heavy shower accompanied our sad step & nature dropped tears at our departure– I felt uncommonly inclined to do ditto. We found the little steamer Molde full of Norwegian tourists but we got a place to sit on deck & Monty, Ld Rowton & Bertie returning to land we set off. There were heavy showers at intervals till we got to where the Romsdal fjord begins—then in cleared & was fair for the rest of the journey. We had our luncheon in picnic style—cold trout, bread, butter & beer & got some good coffee on board. We arrived at Molde abt 8 & went to the Hotel Molde & found table d’hôte supper at ½ past. We then retired to rest.
