2 August 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 2nd August [1882]. I wrote letters at home till abt 12 when I walked off to Q. Anne St stopping at my bootmakers en route. I did not find Blanche in so I went on to see Susan Hambro. Sat & talked awhile with her & then went back to Blanche & lunched with her & May Ponsonby. B’s children went off to Ireland last night & B goes herself tonight. After lunch went for a drive with B to shop. It came on to rain at 5 & she brought me home. Mrs Burr called & stayed a long time talking. Edward Ponsonby came, Mr Burton (N.G.), Sir Wm Gregory, Constance & Charlie. The latter leave town tomorrow. It was past 6 when they all left & I had to dress to go & dine with the Somers. She asked also Mr & Mrs & Nety Hambro, & Arthur (my brother). Mr Buck was also there. Lady Henry Somerset arrived just before dinner but said she wd dine apart in the library not being in eveng dress. I went down to see her just before she went away & found her very changed & grown exceedingly fat. We all went home to bed early.
