5 August 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 5th [August 1882]. Henry & I walked out at 10 o’cl to the Office in Cockspur St where we got places in the sleeping cars to go to Lucerne. We found all places taken till Friday when we got 3 places quite by good luck. We walked on to Charing X station & went down to Dorking by a 11.10 train wh ought to have got there at 12.28 but wh did not actually get in till past 1. Alice Rate met us at the station & we went straight to Milton & lunched. Mr Rate & Mr F. Levenson Gower came from the Bench just as we were finishing lunch. At 3 Henry, Alice Rate & I drove off to Fredley. We took Mr L. Gower to Dorking thence he was going to take a train to Holmbury. We found Mrs & Miss Drummond & Mrs Kay expecting us. The latter very well & about again having recovered marvellously from her late illness. We walked out in the garden & met Mr Paul (the publisher) coming from the station to stay with them. At 4 we set off home again. Mr & Mrs & Miss Fullers (neighbours) came over to tea & Lachie Rate, Margie, Miss Fuller & I played tennis till nearly dinner time. Mr Poynter came to stay till Monday.
