8 August 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 8th August [1882]. Clarita Hunt came to see me & after sitting a little while we walked together to my bonnet shop Durrant where I met by chance Lady Somers & who asked us to dine this eveng with her– I then changed a bonnet I had got– Went to top of Bond St where Clarita & I parted & we both turned homewards. As I walked home I met Lady Gregory & turned back with her. We went to Marshall & Snelgroves & then back to Durrant where she ordered a gown. Then we went home. Henry & I lunched at home—& then walked out together to buy a travelling bag for a wedding present to Mlle Marcello. We got one at Jenner & Knewstub. Came home by 5. Had tea. Mr Burton came to tea—also Mr Rate & Lady Eastlake called but remained down in the dining room not being able to come up stairs. We dined at the Somers & after we had sat down came a message from Mr Albert Grey M.P. to ask if he might come to dinner & he soon after appeared. He said that the Lords & Commons are to come to an arrangement over the Arrear’s bill & there would not be a dissolution. Henry had a bad cold & we came home early laden with medicaments from Ly Somers for Henry to take. Addie Tavistock was there in the eveng.
