7 September 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 7th September [1882]. A dull rainy day followed a night of distant thunderstorms. Lesson of Bontempelli. Henry & Alice went out to leave cards but the rain was very heavy most of the afternoon– Henry went to find M. de Mas Latrie who is staying H. Europa. I did not go out. Stuck in despatches all afternoon & had Jerry up made him learn a prayer & talked to him. No going out in evening. Read & played cribbage. Letter from Mrs Burr who will arrive Sunday & from Arthur to say he will bring Mildred out to stay with us on 15th.
