13 September 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 13th September [1882]. Alice & Mrs Burr looked over the St Mark big book. I superintended the fixing of the shelves for the flower pots outside my studio window. Stuck in despatches. Alice read aloud to me for an hour & I to her in Italian. Began Malmignati’s Perù. During lunch a storm came up & it rained a good deal. Henry & Alice went out after lunch. Mrs Burr & I joined them soon after at the stabilimento. Henry remained there doing business & Alice accompanied us to the Piazzetta. We went to Ongania’s & paid a bill for Henry & then went round to get some photos Mrs Burr wanted—back to the gondola. We fetched Henry at the Stab. Venezia Murano & took him home. Henry gave me a sitting of an hour for his medallion. Tea. Dined at 7 & had Mr & Mrs Charles Eastlake & Mr Malcolm to dine with us. Mrs E. a very talkative rather foolish woman. He is rather deformed, quiet & pleasant. Henry & Alice took them home. Mr Malcolm remained talking with us till the others came back. Cribbage.
