20 September 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 20th September [1882]. Lesson of Italian. Henry gave me a sitting for his medallion. After lunch I painted the fan for a while & Henry took out Alice & Mrs Burr. He came back & I & Mrs Burr went on to the station to enquire if the train from Milan was expected– They said not as the inundations still continued bad– Henry was not very well having a cold & muscular pains in his chest. We sat in the studio, had tea, read Sansovino & talked abt Venice Palaces & history wh is a subject wh at present interests us– In the evening we played cribbage & went to bed early. The Trieste line is open again but the Piave has to be crossed in boats. We got Saty’s letters today. The Gregorys will be here on Friday–
