25 September 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 25th September [1882]. Arthur went out with Giovanni to the bric a brac shops. I had Italian lesson. After lunch Henry, Alice & the Gregorys went off on foot to the glass stab: Arthur & I went in the gondola to the Piazzetta & walked from there sending the gondola for the others. We went first to Clerle’s to look for old things & spent a long time there looking out things to be sent home to see. We then went to Moschio’s in the Spaderia & were there a long time seeing his old things– Then back again to the Merceria & went into 2 old shops & looked at things & then found our way to the Rialto & over it to walk home– But when we got this side we had to get an old woman to show us the way. Just as we got to the gate the dinner bell rang & it was 6.30. We had been out since 2.30. It was a wet eveng & no going out. We amused ourselves with looking over Clerle’s things wh he had sent & went early to bed.
