21 October 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Saturday. 21st [October 1882]. Modelled all the morning while Alice & Mildred read aloud their English & German. Henry sat to me at 1 as we did not lunch till 2. We expected Mr Ball to come & stay with us & he came from Bassano at 1.20. Alice & Mildred remained at home to read while Henry, Mr Ball & I went out. Paid a visit to Hurtados & found them at home & working for the refugees from the floods. Then went to call on Css Canevaro & Mlle Cozzi & they were also at home. Sat & chatted with them. Henry remained there a short time & then went off to Stabto & sent the gondola back for us. Just as I got home Css Marcello & her family came to our door to say they were going off by train back to Mogliano. Mr & Mrs Bracken, Css Mocenigo of S. Stae & her 2 daughters, Mme Canevaro, her sister & husband & Idita all came to tea & we had quite a gathering. Dined at 7.30 & afterwards Alice & Mildred went out to take a row. Henry & I sat & chatted with Mr Ball. | |
