4 November 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 4th November [1882]. Wrote &c as usual before breakfast. Played harmonium with Mildred. There was a thick fog which lasted all day long. Sr Felici came & brought my bust of Cortelazzo wh had been baked– Heard Mildred read German– Alice read Prescott aloud for an hour. At 3 Olga Mocenigo came & brought Css Hoyas to be introduced to me. She was a Miss Whitehead daughter of the inventor of the torpedo. She stayed some time. It was very chilly & we sat by the fire & worked. At 5 went down to tea & had a talk with Morelli & Burton. Wrote 2 letters. Dinner. Mildred played & she & Alice sang “Patience.”
