18 November 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 18th November [1882]. Painted at my fan– Gave Mildred German lesson– Did not go out. Fine morng but suddenly there was such a crash of thunder that I thought there must be an explosion. Then came large hail stones, rain & wind & lightening. It cleared a little in the afternoon & Alice & Henry went out. I went on painting till 4. Mildred sat & talked, conjugated Italian verbs & roasted chestnuts. I made cigarettes for Henry & then went down, had some tea, returned to studio & wrote letters till dinner– Cribbage.
