10 December 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 10th [December 1882]. The weather changed & it became milder. Maria & Louis went off in the middle of breakfast to see the Piazza under water as there was an exceedingly high tide—even higher than the one when I went to the Piazza. They went all round the Piazza in the gondola & said it was a most curious sight. I spent the morng washing my gardenias & plants. Maria came home & then went off to the English service. Henry went to meet them at the Academy & they returned to lunch at 1.30. The weather became stormy again & Css Marcello came to see me. In the evening I played the harmonium. The 2 new servants arrived at 11 o’cl in eveng from Florence—Pasquale & Regina by name. The other housemaid Catterina left us.
