11 December 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 11th December [1882]. Alice & Louis went off to Padua for the day. It was fine when they started but it rained afterwards, off & on– Regina had brought me some flowers from Florence & Maria & I spent the best part of the morning putting them up. Henry’s cold prevented him going out so Maria & I went out in gondola together to the Piazzetta. We went to the Merceria to try & find some shops. We met the Hurtados & walked a little way with them & then returned to business. We went back to the Piazza & then to the Via Ascensione to S. Moisé & walked to the Traghetto opposite our house & then got ferried across. We found Alice & L. had returned by a 1.20 train & walked from the station. After tea finding Alice very depressed had a long talk with her—till dinner time. Mr Malcolm dined with us. I played harmonium in evening.
