12 December 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 12th [December 1882]. I & Maria gossiped away the morning & wrote a few letters. Henry did not go out. I went with 3 Du Canes first to the Stabilimento where they chose glass they wanted—then to the Piazzetta & we walked in the Piazza & did shopping. At 4 we went to call on Rawdon Brown & returned him his 3 vols of Ruskin & his painted fan wh he had lent me to copy & then we came home. Pce Metternich & Css Canevaro came to tea also Css Hoyas & Css Canevaro was very bright & amusing. She had been singing to the Great Liszt’s accompaniment & said she did not like his playing. I had another talk with Alice before dinner. Idita, Miss Bronson, Mr Tindal & Mr Stewart came in the eveng & Idita repeated “Oh Monsieur” a monologue wh she did very cleverly.
