22 December 1882 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 22nd December [1882]. Painted border of fan. Afternoon went out to call on Mme Pilat. She was just going out & came down to the gondola & I took her to S. Moisé. En route we talked of the music to be done this evening. I went on to meet Henry at the Piazza. We took a few turns—went to buy some gold paint– Went on to see old Mr Rawdon Brown whom we found ill with a bad cold. He received us in his bedroom & looked very old in a long coat & a black cap. We came home to tea. Capt. & Mrs Briscoe & his sister called. He is a fussy little Irishman. We talked mostly abt flowers & plants of wh they are fond. I was practising the harmonium when Idita Hurtado came to ask me to put off my next Wedy music as Mrs Bronson has theatricals that night. I said I could not. Mme Hurtado came after & we sat chatting some time. At 9 o’cl Css Canevaro, Sigr Trombini, Mme Pilat, Sr Frontali, Mme Brandolin, Css Marcello & Gino came & we had some music & a pleasant eveng. Css Brandolin was not well & had to leave. Olga Mocenigo came but very late. It was past 12 when we separated.
