1 January 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Monday. 1st January 1883. Wrote & read & finished the design for my fan. After lunch went out in Gondola with Henry, we left some cards & went to call on Mme Hurtado where we found a great many people also calling. We went on to St Marks to hear the service with music. They chanted the Litany of the saints to a rather pretty Gregorian chant. They sang 69th Psalm very badly indeed & then some other Psalms rather better. We saw Olga Mocenigo with her sister there & we came away before the end of the service. Signor Trombini called at tea time & also Ct Canevaro. Dined at 7.30– Read, knitted, played cribbage & went early to bed– | |
