4 January 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Thursday. 4th January [1883]. Idita came to help me to arrange the rooms for this evening’s party. Mr Malcolm’s gardener came to arrange the flower pots. Idita stayed to lunch & Mme Hurtado came to fetch her later & found us arranging the flowers on the supper table & she stayed & helped us. Henry went out to attend a meeting of the Venice & Murano Vetreria. The Hurtados went away abt 4 & I laid down & rested on the sofa being very tired. Had some tea & read. Dressed before dinner, dined in library at 7.30. Lighted up at 7. P. Metternich was 1st to come at 9.30 & Ct & Css Papadopoli, abt 60 people in all came. Gave tea & ices in the dining room– Went to bed abt 1.30. | |
