16 January 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 16th January [1883]. Busy all morning painting my fan– At 2 Css Brandolin & Mme d’Adda came & they came up to my studio. Andriana Marcello & her old sister in law Baronesa Orefice came to call also & came to the studio. After they were gone I went out with Css Brandolin; we deposited her mother at home & then went to call on Mme Sormani Moretti whose “day” it was. We found a good many people calling there & it was very hot—so we cut it as short as we could & as it was raining hard came straight home. Pss Olga du Montenegro came to practise duetts & the Hurtados called at the same time also an Italian officer called [illegible word] a nice young sailor. After tea we practised & when Pss Olga was gone Idita & I played till it was time to dress for dinner. After dinner we went to spend the evening at Css Brandolins & met there Canevaros, Css Mocenigo St Stae & a few gentlemen & we returned home early. Of course the eternal D. Carlos question was discussed & at last it was said there has to be a fine for every time his name was mentioned!
