20 January 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 20th January [1883]. Painted my fan– Lovely weather. Directly after lunch we went in gondola to Piazzetta & to the Venezia & Murano shop to meet M. Bennuzzi on business—& came home early & painted a little till tea time. We had a dinner party for the shareholders of the Vetreria Murano Venezia—Ct Dante Serego, Ct Nicolo Papadopoli, Sr Murano, Mr Castellani, Mr Malcolm, Mr Edwin Bennuzzi—& Css Canevaro & Css Marcello– They did not stay late & so we went to the Papadopoli ball which is a few doors from us. The room looked splendid & the house has just been entirely done up by Guggenheim for 90,000 Fcs but it looks rather too much like a shopman’s taste. Css Papadopoli was very pleasant & kind– There were many Austrians there. Henry played whist & when he had finished we came home–
