24 January 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 24th January [1883]. Painted all morng. Fine day but windy. Lunched rather early & then went off to the inauguration of the Vetreria at Murano. There were there Pss Giovanelli, Ct & Css Schio, Ct Serego. his sister Css Papadopoli, Mme Blaas, all the shareholders, the press &c &c the Prefet Sr Mussi was there & he conducted me round the works on his arm, Henry taking Pss Giovanelli. After we had been all over it we returned to the Mocenigo casino where we found every thing arranged for a slight repast, tea, coffee, sweets &c & we sat there & partook of some indifferent refreshment & then Henry & I went off to the other glass works to take leave of the workmen then went home– It was still blowing pretty hard & the consequence was that no one but Ersilia Canevaro came to hear the music. Frontali, Dini & Trombini tried over some trio of Rubinsteins wh we had got from Paris, but as Frontali had not deigned to try them over beforehand they did not play them well. We went at 11.30 to Css Albrizzis ball & gave Trombini a lift so far. We stayed a very short time as Henry was too late to play at whist. Cortelazzo left us.
