28 January 1883 — Milan | |
Sunday. 28th January [1883]. We got up early & left Milan by 7.30 train. After Como the views were lovely—the icicles & snow made lovely effects in the sunlight in crossing the St Gotthard. Unfortunately I had a headache wh spoilt half my pleasure– Henry dined at Goschenen but I waited till Lucerne when I got a cup of tea & then began to get better. We had a sleeping car from Milan & at Bâle had to change into another– Having an hour to wait we got some soup & chicken & then got in & settled down to sleep for the night. | |
