2 February 1883 — Paris | |
Friday. 2nd February [1883]. At 10 I went off in a cab to see Mme LaCroix’s things by daylight. A great wind got up & it blew quite a gale so that I could hardly stand when I got out of the cab. Mme LaCroix took me straight to her studio & showed me all her works. The Juno looked lovely by daylight. She was not painting as she said her model had not been able to come. M. LaCroix came up to the studio & Mrs Moore called also. They showed me the ceiling in the drawing room wh Mme LaCroix had painted, at 11.30 I went back to the hotel. Henry had gone out to breakfast with M. Dreyfus & to see some private collections of fine things & he was away all day. I had lunch alone & at 3 went out for a little walk with Hill & came home by 4. The wind was still high and it was unpleasant walking. At 4.30 Mrs Tom Taylor & her daughter called & soon after Henry came in—young Mr Taylor joined his mother having come from his day’s work studying as an artist. We gave them tea & sat talking some time. At ¼ 7 we dined & then went off to Renaissance Theatre to see “Le Petit Duc” an operetta by Lecocq—not very original– The mise en scene was pretty, the acting good & the actresses pretty. We got home late it being abt 12.30. | |
