3 March 1883 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 3rd [March 1883]. Alice & I rearranged the flowers & at 11 Bee Eliot called for her & took her to stay with them. I walked out to do some commissions for Susan Hambro & finally went in a hansom to the Baker St Bazzar. Directly after lunch Henry & I drove to the City to Victoria Park to see the French Protestant Hospital founded by our ancestors the Huguenots. It is a very pretty building abt 15 years old and contains 40 men & 20 women who finish their lives there. Each patient must be able to prove their French descent– Frederic & his daughter Ida met us there & Mr Beaufort who is a governor & who showed us over it. From there we came straight home. We dined with Ld & Ly Stanhope. Mr C. Mills took me to dinner & I sat between him & the German Ambr who was very dull– There was a large party. In the eveng when the party began we slipped away & went to Lady Hayters where we found a large crowd & many friends.
