23 March 1883 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Friday. 23rd March [1883]. Good Friday. It was too cold to go to church so Merthyr read the service in the boudoir. I received a letter from Lady Ely merely saying that the Queen was much interested in us & that she Lady E. was coming to London & would see me & talk to me. I wrote some letters & talked to Maria. Walked in the wood with Merthyr & Theo. In the evening I drew some bottles to get reproduced at Venice. Whist was not allowed tonight & when we retired Henry & I had a private cribbage.
