12 May 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 12th [May 1883]. The weather is evidently settled. Made cuttings, arranged flowers & wrote letters. After luncheon the Edens came & I went with Mr Eden to Malcolm’s garden, Henry followed with Mrs Eden. He Mr E. was carried into the garden & a sofa put out for him to lie on. Mrs Eden & I made the tea in the summer house & then we went in there & drank tea & remained some time returning home abt 6 laden with flowers. Idita & Mme Hurtado called. Dined at 7 & then took a row in gondola on the canal—a beautiful rather chilly night with moon & brilliant stars. We went for an hour to Mrs Curtis at Palazzo Barbaro & met the Hurtados, Browns, Mrs Eden &c. Mrs Curtis played Mozart on piano. Home by 11.
