13 May 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 13th May [1883]. Went to church in the morng. Ld Alwyne Compton helped the service & preached & we had a better service than usual. I took Mrs Eden over to her own door after church & then went home to lunch. Sowed sweet peas sent me from England. Recd weekly flowers from Florence & put them in water. Went out with Henry in gondola– Called on Lady Marian Alford & made acquaintance with Ld Northampton– Went on to public gardens & took a walk. The band was playing. Henry left me at Mme Hurtados at 4.30 & went on to call on Rawdon Brown– There was quite a party at the Hurtados. I remained there till 6 & then came home. Dined at 7. Went out in gondola—after dinner. Walk in Piazza—band playing. At 9.30 went to Css Marcello. Henry had his game of whist. I sat talking. It was 12.30 before we returned. Fine night.
