15 May 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 15th [May 1883]. Idita came in her sandalo soon after 9 & persuaded me to go out with her. We had a lovely row round by the station & stopping at the Campo di Marte to pick hawthorn we brought home a large bunch of it. We came home at 10.30. Practised guitar, read & worked. After lunch Henry went out with Lady Marian Alford & I went to the Edens & accompanied them to the Lido. We went to S. Nicoletto end by the military canal & so found ourselves almost on the sea shore. Mrs Eden made tea & we sat & talked & watched fishermen hauling in their nets till nearly 6. Mr & Miss Ames and young Mr Ames were with us. I had to hasten home to dress for dinner. Lady Marian Alford, Ld Northampton, Css Marcello & Mr & Mrs Symonds & Mr Brown dined with us. In the evening a good many people came to tea.
