Thursday. 24th May [1883]. Mr Malcolm sent some lovely flowers & I spent the morning putting them up & helping to arrange the table for tonight’s dinner. Henry took the Bishop out in the afternoon, I remained at home, rested and wrote letters. Mrs Bronson, Ld & Ly Alwyne Compton, Mr Malcolm, Genl. de Horsey, Mme Hurtado, Mrs Eden, Mr Brown, & the Bishop made up our dinner party—Lady Gordon failed us. It being the Queen’s birthday we drank her health at dessert. In the evening we had a party wh was rather full & kept up till 12–
