25 May 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 25th [May 1883]. Modelled—practised guitar & had one lesson to wh Idita & Miss Bronson came. Henry took the Bishop to Murano. Mrs Eden sent the gondola for me wh took me to the Britannia where I enquired abt rooms in case the Somers came here as Lady S. writes word they are at Milano & have ½ mind to come on– Then went to the Edens. Mr & Mrs Eden came down to the gondola. We went to Mrs Bronson’s to call for her daughter– We found Mrs Bronson just going out & persuaded her to come to the Lido with us. So Mrs Eden went in her sandalo with her & Miss Bronson came with Mr Eden & me– It was a lovely fresh day & we enjoyed it. The acacias on the Lido were in full flower & we went to the same place as the last time called the Quattro Fontane. We made Mrs Bronson take a little turn on the sands & then Mrs Eden & I walked together returning to get some tea provided by Mrs Eden & some strawberries Mrs Bronson had bought out of a boat laden with fruit & vegetables. The Bronsons went home together & Mrs & Miss Ames who had joined us at the Lido. The Edens left me at home. It was after 7 & Henry & the Bishop were waiting dinner. I quickly dressed & came down. After dinner we went out to hear the Serenade wh began up at Sandwirth’s Hotel at 9 o’cl. We followed it a while & then went to Ca’ Dario. I went up & arranged with Lady Marian that we wd go to Burano tomorrow then we returned to the serenade & finally went for a few minutes to the Edens to see it pass there. Then home to bed.
