26 May 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 26th May [1883]. Idita came in the morning for a few minutes & arranged that she would go with us to Burano this afternoon. We lunched at 12.30 & at 1.30 we all set off to Burano. I took Idita & the Bishop. Lady Marian took Henry & Lady Gordon—& Lord Northampton, his 2 girls & Miss Gay came in the 3rd gondola. It was a pleasant day & there was a fresh wind. We got to Burano in 1¾ hour & went straight to the lace school wh Lady Marian inspected. Thence to the church where there is a Palla by Sta Croce in the sacristy & a curious gothic chalice besides Venice point lace with figures in it. We then took to our gondolas & went on to Torcello– As soon as we landed Idita & I set to work to warm up our coffee and get it ready by the time the others had seen the church. We got some fresh milk & had a pleasant refreshment– Went to the museum & then set off home– Henry came back with us & we hurried on to get Idita back to Venice as she was to dine with Mrs Bronson—left her at Mrs Bronson’s house & went on home. After dinner we took the Bishop to Mme Brandolin’s. Henry played écarté & I worked & talked to the Bishop & Ninina.
