27 May 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 27th [May 1883]. We sent the Bishop on early to church & I & Henry followed. There was Communion & I remained & brought the Bishop home. He & I went in to Mr Malcolm’s to see him before returning to lunch. I recd my flowers fm Florence—also roses from St Cechetti & also from Malcolm so I had quantities of flowers. At 3 Malcolm came to fetch us & took us (Henry, the Bishop & I) in his gondola to his garden wh was a mass of lovely roses. We sat there a little while but there was a scirocco blowing & we did not feel up to walking much. Mr Malcolm brought me home & Henry & the Bishop went to leave cards. Mme Hurtado came to tea– Mrs Eden dined with us. We took her home at 9 & then went to call on Lady Marian Alford & to bid the Comptons & Ld Northampton adieu as they leave tomorrow. Then home to bed.
