2 June 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 2nd June [1883]. Practised guitar as usual before breakfast. Wrote letters afterwards. Read– At 3 went to practise the hymns for tomorrow’s service at the English church. Mme Hurtado, Mr Grenfell, Mrs Thelwell & Miss Bronson were there. Mr Mereweather did not come out but pleaded indisposition. At 3.30 I joined Henry at the Stabto & we went to the Edens having a plan to go to the Lido with them. I got into Mr Eden’s boat & Mrs Eden went with Henry. We went to the Quattro Fontane & landed. A thunderstorm threatened & there were some fine storm clouds & effects. We sat there till past 6 when we suddenly thought the storm was upon us & we hurried home but it never came after all. Mme Hurtado & Idita dined with us & we stayed in this evening.
