4 June 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Monday. 4th [June 1883]. Practised guitar before breakfast. Wrote a lot of letters; visit from Lady Gordon. At 2 went out in gondola with Giovanni to the P. Office to claim a letter with 900 fcs sent me by the C. Pss of Germany to pay for that silk she bought here. Came home, practised guitar. At 3.30 went out—left Henry at the Stabto & then went to pick up Mrs Eden. We went shopping & met Henry again in the Piazza—took a walk & then went home to tea. The B. & Bss Oesterreicher called, also Css Brandolin & Mrs Eden stayed till nearly 7. Baron B. is an Austrian Adl & is writing a book on ships. After dinner went to the Piazza to try & find M. & Mme Cairoli who we see by the papers are here. Did not find them. Henry left me with Lady Bagot at the Hotel. I stayed talking to her till 11 when I went to join Henry at the Valmaranas, found him playing whist– Had tea & came home at 11.30. | |
