8 June 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 8th June [1883]. Idita came & Profr Negri and we had our guitar lesson. Miss Bronson was away. After lunch Henry went out to see Brusa’s antiquities. I remained in reading & working. Lady Bagot & 2 girls came to see me & at 4.30 we had tea & then Henry & I went out. I called on Lady Gordon at the Palazzo Civran & found her at home & saw her sick daughter who is miserably thin & delicate. Ly Gordon was full of a passage at arms she had had with her Dr (Angelo) who had charged her 10 fcs a visit & as he had paid 83 visits it was a good lot. I told her I had found that the Venetians paid 3 fcs a visit. She said she had paid him at the rate of 5 fcs & something over & he had made a great scene but ended in taking the cheque & becoming quite affectate. Henry in the meanwhile went to see Rawdon Brown & I went & called for him. Left cards at the Dss della Grazia & then came home. Idita & Mme Hurtado came for a few minutes before dinner. After dinner went for a row—came in early & played cribbage.
