12 June 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 12th June [1883]. Idita & I had our guitar lesson. Did accounts after lunch with Henry. He went out at 4 & at 5 I went to Stabto to join him after I had had T. I went to see Mrs Brown while Henry went to walk in Piazzetta—& I fetched him. It began to rain—we left cards on Mrs Broadwood & while waiting at the Riva of S. Maurizio saw the Bagots, Hurtados & Mrs Eden in a window. They were having tea with a Mr Hamilton Ker & Mr Talbot—two young men who are here for a short time—the former a wild Irishman—& both having already made themselves conspicuous for their strange ways, sometimes one sees them each lying half dressed on their balconies– Today they recd the ladies got up in Corsican costumes. From the window they invited us in but Henry wd not go & we went home. After dinner it cleared up & we went out in gondola. We left Idita’s guitar at her house & she called to us out of the window & begged us to go in and we promised to return when we had been for a row wh we did. Henry played écarté with Mme Hurtado. I & Idita played piano duetts.
