13 June 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 13th June [1883]. Idita came & sat to me for an hour & as it was St Antonio she had to go to church at 11. I went with her to the Frari & while she heard mass I sat in the choir & waited. The people were bringing offerings of the big while lily & put them into the large vase for holy water which looked very picturesque. In the middle of the vase was a bronze figure & the lilies were leant against it. We went on to the Brazzoduro gardens in the Giudecca & we bought some plants & then had to get home by 12. At 5 I went out in gondola—fetched Henry & brought him home. Miss Sharp, Capt. Sharp, Mr Malcolm, Mr van Haanen & Mrs Eden dined with us. A few English came in the evening. But we were not very lively, the Ruxtons, Broadwoods, Miss Seymour &c.
